The App Store has long been criticized for its high commission rates. However, it also stands out as a store where thousands of developers earn large sums of money. A bug in one of Apple’s services for the App Store has resulted in some developers becoming millionaires.
App Store bug says apps are making millions of dollars
Some iOS developers have discovered a major bug in the App Store’s app earnings dashboard. Over the weekend, posts revealed that some app owners’ revenues had reached the million-dollar mark.
A major bug was discovered in App Store Connect. Apple’s service for developers offers the opportunity to track metrics such as downloads, sales and revenue from apps in the App Store. However, the platform was confused by a bug that caused revenue data to be displayed incorrectly.
According to posts on social media, some developers saw their earnings increase by over 999 percent in a 24-hour period. The revenue spikes occurred at odd hours without any promotions or events that could explain the spikes.
The abnormally high earnings spikes were said to be a mistake. The numbers showed that apps were making millions of dollars in just a few hours. Naturally, most developers were skeptical of these numbers as too unrealistic to be true.
Apple admitted that there was a bug in App Store Connect. It stated that there was a problem in the revenue calculation of some applications and incorrect figures were shown to developers. The company said it is working to fix the bug that caused misleading revenue reporting.
